During the winter of 2010 Wielinga moved to Amsterdam. Around the corner of her new home, the Rijksmuseum organized a winter exhibition with the work of Hendrik Avercamp. Alice was determined to one day make a contemporary remake of his ice skating scenes. It lasted till February 2012 for her to find the right opportunity. On February 10th the canals were frozen, a rare occasion that turned the Amsterdam canal area into a winter fairytale. The canals filled with ice skating locals was the ideal occasion to create an ice-skating scene referring to Avercamps paintings.
